What's been going on in First Grade?
Reading: We've continued to practice reading to ourselves. This week we will begin to "collect" words (as individuals) during guided reading groups.
Writing: We've been working on making sure our sentences are complete with a capital letter at the beginning, finger space between our words, and an endmark (period, question mark, or exclamation mark) to finish. We've also talked about how you should reread any sentence that you write to see if it makes sense (and fix it if it doesn't). This week we will also talk about nouns.
Handwriting: We continue to practice correct letter formation together. This week we are practicing C, S, and U.
Math: We will start a new unit about fractions. We will talk about halves, thirds, and fourths. Stay on the lookout for math homework on Tuesdays and Thursdays.
Science: We will continue to talk about sound and the fact that sound is caused by vibrations.
