Students have been learning to recognize the letters in the alphabet, and their sounds. Each day your child goes home with the letter we practiced in class. This week we have been practicing the letters /T-X/. Review the letter and sound if they do not know them. We have also learned the following sight words; /a/, /the/, /see/,/my/, and /I/. This week we will learn the sight word/is/. These words are in the poems which have been sent home. We read them together as a class and highlight the sight word. Please help your child recognize these words by reading the poems.
The students have started working with me during reading groups. They are grouped with peers on the same level. Other students are in the literacy centers participating in one or more of the following activities: listening to a book on c.d., practicing writing, working on letters and fine motor skills, literacy skills on the computer, and reading to themselves in the classroom library.
We are practicing writing our names. If your child is having difficulty with this, then help by strengthening their fine muscles. Students will be able to write their name using a capital letter for the first letter and lower case for all the rest.
During writing workshop we are writing with both a picture and words. We are starting to use the first sound we hear in a word to begin to write.
The students have started writing across more than one page like Authors do. Ask them to tell you about their bear book.
We have begun Unit 2-Number sense. We will be working on recognizing numbers, writing numbers, making number sets, and understanding vocabulary words: the same as, more than and less than. Students will practice these skill independently during math centers.
Students will continue to read books and participate in activities so we can continue to practice being quality students.
We are learning about objects which are living or non-living. Ask you child to tell you three ways to know if something is living or non-living.
