The Elementary Strings Program provides fifth grade students with the opportunity to begin learning a string instrument in a supportive, engaging environment. Through hands-on instruction, students develop instrumental technique, music literacy, creativity, and performance skills while participating in school concerts and other musical events. Students have the option of learning to play violin, viola, cello, or bass.
Fifth grade students who are interested in joining the strings program should contact their school's strings teacher.
Students may rent an instrument from the school, based on availability. All school-rented instruments require a signed instrument rental contract before the instrument can be taken home. Students may also rent instruments from a local music store. More information about instrument rentals will be shared by the school strings teacher.
Supplies needed for strings are specific to the instrument that the student plays. The strings teacher will provide this information at the beginning of the year.
All 5th graders are invited to join strings! Your child can learn the violin, viola, cello, or bass, no experience necessary. Strings classes meet once a week during core extension. Classes begin on September 14 and continue until the end of the school year.
The strings teacher Ms. Plunkett ([email protected]) will be meeting with all 5th grade classes on August 25 to show them their instrument options. Registration forms will go home with your child on August 25. The deadline to sign up for strings is Tuesday, September 1.
